Speech, Debate, and Drama

Camryn Clark

Speech, debate, and drama are three different sections of the Speech and Drama world. They each have multiple different events that students can pick from. Speech has seven different events. In some, students write their own speeches, while in others, students give pre-written speeches. Drama is a category where you can use costumes and props. There are six different events ranging from duo acting to miming. Debate has only three different events and  tends to have fewer participating students. Each speech and drama contestant is given between 7 and 10 minutes to perform their piece, while debate rounds are made up of several speeches and rebuttals.

This year at BCCHS, there were 23 competitors in the program ranging from seniors to freshmen. Nearly all of them made it to divisionals and preformed there to get into state. Divisionals was in Livingston and state was in Sidney. 21 speech and drama competitors made it to state, and several placed in their individual events. Drama took 2nd place overall and Speech took 5th place.
