On Wednesday, September 27th, the students of Billings Central participated in a cleanup day around the neighboring area. This annual event not only serves the community but also allows students to fulfill their community service hours. Plus, students get the opportunity to be part of something bigger than themselves. Students divided and conquered by grade level. Freshmen and sophomores worked on cleaning the residential areas surrounding Central, while juniors and seniors focused more on the commercialized areas.
Krista Cunningham’s AP Environmental Science class orchestrated the distribution of supplies, following a joking announcement by principal Nolan Trafton that he had hid a considerable amount of money around the neighborhood. This sparked a great excitement among the student body, motivating them to be more thorough in their work in the hope of filling their wallets.
This event expands on Billing Central’s focus of making a positive impact on the community and influencing students to represent the values of the school. Later on in the year, around Earth Day, another cleanup day will take place, giving students another opportunity to serve the community.
