Friday of homecoming week was an extremely action-packed day for the whole system, with both the high school and K-8 building turning the festivities up to eleven. The day began normally with shortened periods, but, as it continued, the spirit increased exponentially.
The theme for the day was “spirit”, something that became incredibly apparent. Green-masked men roamed the hall while others adorned themselves with elaborate clothing. The day culminated at an all-time high with a pep rally.
The MC, Kyler Northrop, did a fantastic job of hyping up the crowd at the beginning of the pep rally. Next came a tug-of-war game which the teachers’ team won handily. Musical chairs followed the tug-of-war. Despite the valiant efforts of Jordan Harrell, who single-handedly fought off school chaplain Fr. John Pankratz and science teacher Jennifer Sogaard on back-to-back rounds, math teacher Marci Hecker was ultimately victorious.
The Pep Rally concluded with the most popular event by far: the senior boys vs girls dance-off. The girls went first, followed by the boys. Freshman Owen Wegner starred in both performances. Branden Martinez, the head of the music department, said, “That was one of the best boys performances I’ve seen.” The dance-off can be seen on Shane Fairbanks’ YouTube Channel.
