In mid August, the Billings Central boys and girls golf teams kicked off the beginning of fall sports. They practiced and competed multiple times a week to try and reach their goal of winning a State Championship. On September 28th-September 30th, the varsity golf teams traveled to Sidney, Montana to compete in the Montana Class A State Golf Tournament.
Both teams had very successful seasons. At the divisional tournament the week before, the girls placed 1st and the boys placed 3rd. The first day in Sidney was a practice round where all of the teams could come and get a feel for the course. Junior Ethan Miller said he faced multiple challenges in Sidney. “The weather was very challenging. The cooler temperatures and windy conditions played a part in my golfing,” he said.
During the first day, both the boys and girls teams worked hard and set their sights on another successful day. During events like divisional tournaments and state tournaments, the competing schools get to interact. Miller said, “One of my favorite parts about being on the Central golf team is that I have been able to create friendships with my teammates and competitors from other schools.” The second day of the tournament was competitive and everything was on the line. After a long day of golfing, the results were in. The girls placed second, and the boys placed fifth.
The Central golf teams spent many hours practicing and preparing for the end to a successful season. The boys and girls golfed well and hope to have another successful season next year.
