The Central Swim Team has a long legacy of success and victory, with the boys winning 13 state championships since 2000 and the girls winning 11. They hope to continue that success this year. Shifting teams have resulted in the smallest girls team in many years and the largest boys team ever, so the seniors have mixed feelings looking toward the state competition. Now, with several meets under its belt, the team is starting to get a sense of how the championship will play out. The boys won their first meet with a 60-point lead over the second-place West High, whom they will not even face in the championship due to classification differences based on high school size. The girls placed fifth at the same meet but have still gained confidence by beating both of their direct competitors: Havre and Hardin.
With their win over multiple class AA schools, the boys feel very confident about their prospects this year, but they still have room to improve. Senior David Ramshaw said, “I think our early win is a good start, but we still need to grow as swimmers and as a family.” The girls, while still confident, feel they will have to work hard for a five-peat, with Senior Myah Kunz saying, “I’m confident in my team. Even though we are small, we have a lot of strong swimmers. We just have to swim for each other, and I think we have a good chance.”
