Billings Central’s Film, Editing, and Design class has been working hard on two new feature films for their Premiere in May. Film teacher Shane Fairbanks shared his take on the movie-making process and information about these movies themselves.
Like last year, the film class is going for two feature films. Fairbanks said, “We had two ideas actually starting in the spring, thought about it all summer, wrote it in the fall, and then one of them is finishing being written right now by Matthew Rah.” The other movie is being written by Fairbanks himself.
Fairbanks described Rah’s movie as, “a comedy which is a spoof, and it’ll be a shorter film. A lot will go into that trying to make it look cinematic so that it’s funny but it’s not stupid.”
Fairbanks then described the film he wrote. “The other film is going to be a drama, but it sounds like a comedy because it’s about pickleball. It’ll be a hero’s journey, and it’s an underdog story of overcoming all the odds.” Fairbanks has already spent 40 hours writing the over 100-page script. For the first time ever, the film class will begin shooting the movie before March, and will be filming one scene at a time for this movie. In previous years, they shot everything in one or two weekends.
These movies and more will be shown at the Babcock Theater on May 8th.
