On Friday, January 5th, eighth-grade band students from St. Francis Catholic School joined the Central pep band for the boys’ varsity basketball game against Fergus High. Before the event, BCCHS Music department director Brandon Martinez had tried to send sheet music to the middle school band director Glenda Newman, but it hadn’t gone through. With no music, the younger group was forced to sight-read the high school pep band music with no practice. Fortunately, the older students had just barely enough iPads for the Saint Francis band to read and play from. Not surprisingly, the eighth graders performed at an absolutely stunning level. They played at the first quarter, halftime, and after the game, alongside the high schoolers, and it’s safe to say that the young musicians knocked it out of the park!
