At Billings Central, a great new club has formed: the Pickleball Club! It is a fun chance for students to try out a unique and easy sport with people outside of their normal cliques.
Junior Gianna Haney shared, “Our first meeting had a great turnout and was super exciting, especially with Drew Brees showing up. Russell Johnson, the club’s co-president, is the retired football player’s relative. The first time we hit the court together was a blast, playing doubles and learning from others who knew more about pickleball. I think this club will be a lot of fun, because it’s all about a game I enjoy, and, judging by our numbers, lots of others at our school enjoy it too.”
The co-founders, juniors Russell Johnson and Sam Jagodzinski, said they simply, “love the game,” and saw the need for a pickleball club at Billings Central. They assumed others would enjoy the opportunity to play, and they were proven right. Their first meeting had a great turnout.
The club plans to have friendly “tournaments” every week, welcoming everyone from beginners to pros. Plus, there’s a movie in the works about pickleball from the film class. It’s safe to say that pickleball is becoming the next big thing at BC!
