Central has just introduced a new student-to-student tutoring program. The school has never had a program like this before, but one student noticed the need for it. Junior Anna Kim came up with the idea and brought it to the school administration and counselor Nate Kavanagh. She realized that it could be a beneficial tool for many students. Kim said, “I just noticed that Central didn’t actually have any sort of student tutoring and thought it was something that could be beneficial to the school. I know a lot of people use tutoring outside of school, but that is often pretty expensive and might not be a reasonable option for everyone.”
She also realizes the limitations of students teaching students. Kim knows that it will not be the same quality as an outside tutoring program, but it is free and easily accessible for students, which is what matters most. She said, “I hope it’s the kind of program that will draw in both people wanting to learn and people wanting to teach, because I think it will be useful to improve both people’s grades and their initiative skills…It’s a pretty new thing for Central, but it’s not a super revolutionary idea overall, nor is it anything too complex.”
