Mrs. Mattix Dedicates 43 Years and More to Catholic Schools

Matthew is a senior at BCCHS and has been a writer and editor for the BC Chronicle since his freshman year. He helped start the BCCHS journalism program in 2020 as a club, alongside fellow students Hank Jagodzinski and Casey Rah, before it was added as an official class. Matthew enjoys writing about new science and technology, especially in regards to Central. In addition to journalism, Matthew is a member of the Central Academic Team and helped to win Central’s first victory in the Regional Science Bowl before winning it again the next year. He is also involved in the BCCHS branch of HOSA, the Student Council, and the BCCHS Environmental Club. Matthew currently plays soccer and swims for Central. Outside of school, Matthew enjoys reading, running, and working with computers. He has a passion for filmmaking and edits for Good ‘Nuff Productions. Matthew plans on pursuing a career in biomedical engineering after attending college.

Casey Rah is a senior at Billings Central Catholic High School. He has been in the Billings Catholic School System since kindergarten. Casey has been an active member of the BC Chronicle staff since the newspaper’s founding in 2020. He believes that student journalism is an excellent way to keep his peers informed about important events that affect their lives and hopes that it will help him to continue to be an active member of his community. In addition to writing his school newspaper, Casey plays on Central’s soccer team and participates in the National Science Bowl. This summer, Casey got his commercial drone license. He intends to capture aerial photos and videos for the BC Chronicle.

Hank Jagodzinski is a 12th-grade student at Billings Central Catholic High School. He is a co-founder of the BC Chronicle and now serves as an editor and reporter for the publication. He was selected as a Rise Global Winner (an initiative of Schmidt Futures and the Rhodes Trust) for his work on student journalism in Montana. His work has also been featured in the Montana Free Press. Hank enjoys writing on science and health-related topics on the local level. He believes that high-quality journalism is vital for science communication, which has been made more evident by the COVID-19 pandemic. Hank is currently considering a career in medicine.

Outside of journalism, Hank is active in student council, tennis, speech and debate, science bowl, and science Olympiad. He is also a member of the Billings Public Library Teen Advisory Group and the Montana High School Association Student Advisory Council.

Jack has been a part of Journalism since freshmen year, primarily writing stories on community issues, environmental activism, and satire. He participates in various clubs and organizations around Central: president of HOSA, secretary of Student Council, pianist for Mosses, captain of the men’s soccer team, and a member of environmental club. Outside of school, he enjoys backcountry skiing, fly fishing, hiking, and jazz piano. Jack plans to pursue a career in political science and public policy, pushing for a more sustainable and equitable future.

Brianna Brandon is a 12th grade student at Billings Central Catholic High School. She is a sports and community news reporter for the BC Chronicle. She is committed to providing the most relevant school news stories. Besides writing for the school newspaper, Brianna also is involved in many extra curricular activities within the school. She is captain of the girls soccer team, secretary of HOSA club, co-president of Vision volunteer club, involved in student council, kids-connecting-kids, orchestra, and more. Outside of school, Brianna enjoys volunteering at the local library, scrapbooking, spending time with family and friends, reading, and writing short stories, She also loves being outdoors and running, hiking, and skiing.

Olivia Jensen is a senior at BCCHS. This is her second year as a part of the BC Chronicle where she mainly serves as a photographer and occasionally does some writing. She enjoys writing about any school activities and photographing any Billings Catholic Schools events! Outside of being in the BC Chronicle she is also involved in Speech and Debate, Yearbook, Choir, and Jazz Choir. In the future she plans on studying criminology and criminal justice and then going to law school.

Lauren Tracy is a senior at Billings Central Catholic High School. She has attended Billings Catholic schools since pre-school and joined journalism freshman year to help promote a positive and engaging way to share stories with students, parents, and faculty. Lauren enjoys reporting stories that focus on activities and events in the school system. In addition to journalism, Lauren is involved in choir and different clubs at Billings Central. She works after school at the after school program at St. Francis Catholic School. She enjoys spending time with her friends and attending games and school activities.
