In previous years Billings Central has reported school news through a paper, so with the new vision of a podcast for Central reporting, fans are able to find school news behind the mic. Students can do this with sophomore Matteo Harris. Matteo is the head director of the BC Spotlight podcast, which is currently streaming on Spotify. With several episodes released, the BC Spotlight team’s vision is to see more behind the scenes and through the eyes of the students of central. When asked what makes the podcast so exciting, Harris shared, “I think it’s exciting because it brings out the different parts of the school most people can’t see. For example, when we interview Mr. Trafton it’s kind of him sharing the behind the scenes of us, the students, and what’s going on at the school.”
The podcast has shined light on some issues the school is interested in by interacting with the student body via instagram, as well as asking if they have any questions or want to voice their opinion on a topic. Topics have included the BC student council, the soccer championship, and what makes Central the special place it is. On the focuses of the podcast, Harris said, “We have four main topics we want to stick to to give structure. Obviously major school topics, like events going on in the school. They also interview the staff, focusing on the teachers and how they interact with the kids, and how to better the school environment. Making sure we’re following sports, clubs, and activities, and having one week every so often that we have a fun, something kinda random, topic in the school that is happening.”
The BC Spotlight is run by Matteo Harris who is a sophomore, as well as sophomore Lizzie Rah, senior Kirkallen Hoskins, junior Will Nelson, and senior JJ Michalsky. The team’s goal is to make sure all key topics in BC are addressed and each grade has an insight. The podcast will have weekly episodes released, featuring new interviews, a rotating selection of interviewers, and highlighting new people in the school who are being interviewed.
