This year, Central decided to add a twist on how they announced this year’s Twirp theme. In years past, Student Council would announce the TWIRP theme by posting it on the TVs located in the hallways. However, this year, they decided to make a video on Instagram announcing the theme. “We just thought it would be fun to announce it like this because the students had a say in what the themes would be, so we wanted to include them,” said Mrs. Kulaga, the teacher in charge of Student Council. The video started with four students holding newspapers saying, “2024 TWIRP theme is.” Finally, they flipped them around to the back, which had the word “glow” written on it.
However, this theme wasn’t picked at random. Each year, Student Council posts a poll on Schoology for students to pick their three favorite themes. This year, the options that the student body selected were “Winter Wonderland,” “Space,” and “Glow.” Before sending out the Schoology post, the Student Council picked numerous themes at a meeting beforehand. “People just came up with a bunch of different ideas on what themes could be, and we went from there,” Mrs. Kulaga explained. Student Council then voted on the final theme, which ended up being a glow party.
Many students enjoyed the way the TWIRP theme was announced this year. Senior Anna Prill said, “I thought it was a really creative way to reveal the theme while also making good use of social media since kids are so connected to it.” Adding this twist to announcing the TWIRP theme helped involve the students more. It was a creative way to reveal it, and many students enjoyed that aspect.
