This last Thursday, November 21st, Central’s Music Department spent the day on MSUB’s campus to attend their “Yellow Jacket Day.” The MSUB Music Department hosts this event annually, and Central has participated in Yellow Jacket Day in years past. Throughout the day, different high schools from around the area performed for and were adjudicated by MSUB professors. Other schools in attendance included Park City and Roundup. The Band, Orchestra, and Choir all performed two or three pieces for a professor at MSUB who specialized in that specific ensemble.
During the adjudication of each ensemble, the professor would give tips and pointers to help with the piece Central’s musicians had performed. Penny Paquette, a freshman cellist at Central, thought that the adjudication for the orchestra was very helpful. Paquette stated, “It was just the little things that she pointed out that made the orchestra sound better overall like lifting our elbows and having us all get one note in tune.”
At the end of the day, MSUB college students put on a concert for all of the high schools who attended that day. Paquette, along with many other students, expressed that it was inspiring and amazing to see the students preform. MSUB’s Yellow Jacket Day was an enjoyable and pivotal experience for the Music Department of Central, and many students hope to attend next year’s Yellow Jacket Day.
