Photographers play an integral role in society as artists who capture everyday life in angles and lighting that strikes emotion into the viewer. Capturing the bigger moments in Billings Central school life and in Montana schools is BCCHS senior Jacob Jewett. “I started having an interest in photography in my freshman year. I was always infatuated with art, but I didn’t really find my niche until then,” Jewett remarks. “I think last year I really started taking it seriously. I saw a lot of opportunities in the future, and I saw a light at the end of the tunnel with this journey.” Spanning from football fields to the arts, Jewett made his mark with his photography career thus far; expanding outside of BCCHS, Jewett has photographed Bozeman Bobcat football games along with photographer Simeon Woodard, as well as photographing other schools and multiple basketball events.

“I will always like doing football the most because of the environment and the energy it produces. Nothing quite like shooting a football game.” Jewett has been able to capture the energy on the Herb Klindt football field, taking photos of football teams from BCCHS, Billings West, Bozeman Bobcats, and away games against Lockwood Lions and the Laurel Locomotives. Jewett photographs not only to impact photography and art, but also the sports industry, a belief shared by many others: “I think any time Central has their name, or image I believe it’s good for Central. Jacob does great work. I think it’s a hobby he enjoys, and I’m glad the school can support him!” stated BCCHS principal Nolan Trafton. Jewett has enjoyed widespread support by the Billings Central community, from the players and students, faculty, and from Trafton and the BCCHS administration.
Jewett has grabbed the attention of many; his photography reflects his personal style, producing an energetic and unique image. Jewett hopes with each photograph to capture something no other photographer would, saying, “I haven’t seen anybody really do the things that I do until after I started figuring out how to do them. I try to make the photos look a certain way that I find appealing, and I guess others like it too!” Jewett has now acquired over 1,000 followers on his instagram jewettmedia, and has built connections so as to be able to ask the community if they would like for him to photograph their team during certain events, and for those looking they will be able to spot him at almost any football game, basketball game, as well as open gyms and tournaments, capturing the community with his art and style.
