This spring, Student Council is offering their first scholarship of $1,000 that is solely grounded on merit, scholarship, and service. Student Council has been talking about founding a scholarship in the past, and this year, Co-Presidents Emirie Hastings and Russell Johnson were extremely intentional on making it happen for all current ninth through eleventh graders.
Through the years, Student Council has been a significant club for Central. They organize every dance, including the all-new Valentine’s Day Dance this year. However, Co-President Emirie Hastings explained that in her opinion, the scholarship is their ‘biggest accomplishment’ as a club. Student Council hopes that this scholarship will be able to recruit more students into the club for next year.
The scholarship application contains standard questions, including questions about that member’s involvement in Student Council and academic examination. Any current Student Council member who is a 9th-11th grader is able to apply. This scholarship is a way for a Student Council member to be recognized for their efforts and assistance throughout the year. Hastings states, “We just wanted to give back to Student Council.” This scholarship will hopefully recruit students to join the club, while inspiring the current members to get more involved.
With April 15th, the application deadline, having passed with members of Student Council encouraged to apply for this $1,000 scholarship going towards their tuition for next year, members of Student Council now await the decision of Student Council’s scholarship committee. Members of the Student Council are what help make Central’s events fun and exciting and this scholarship will get to honor those who have put in time for others.
