The spring sports season is wrapping up at Billings Central, and every Rams spring sports team is heading off to state. Rams Baseball has punched their ticket to state in a successful inaugural season, while the Lady Rams Softball is continuing to build on last year’s success. Track is sending seventeen athletes to state, and the dynasty that is Billings Central Tennis is sending six.
The Rams Track Team has enjoyed enormous success this season, with the girls taking fifth overall at divisionals and the boys taking second. Junior, Liam Aldrich, qualified for state in the 110-meter hurdles, and junior, Luke Newman, took sixth in javelin. Sophomores, Michael Thomas in the 110-meter hurdles and 200-meter hurdles, Logan Strecker in shot put, Cy Hansen in the 400-meter, and Gradey Dunn in pole vault, all qualified for their respective events. Junior, William Snell, qualified for state in the 100-meter and 200-meter events, taking first place in both. Junior, Greyson Piseno, prequalified for state in the 1600 and 3200-meter events. The Montana Grizzlies signee and senior, Sam Jagodzinski, prequalified for the 400, 800, and 1600-meter events. The 4×400-meter relay team also prequalified, as did the 4×100-meter team.
For the ladies, sophomore, Grace Jagodzinski, achieved three personal records at divisionals in the 800, 1600, and 3200-meter events. The girls 4×400-meter relay team prequalified for state with a 4:09 run. Junior, Annika Stergar, qualified for long jump and triple jump, while junior, Cecily Hope, prequalified for the 800-meter. Junior, Shayla Brittain, prequalified in the 1600 and 3200-meter events. She also broke a school record in the 3200-meter at divisionals.
Moving on to baseball, the Rams inaugural season has been a huge success. They are ranked third in the state behind crosstown rivals, Billings Skyview and Billings West. In their play-in game to make the Montana State Baseball Tournament, the Rams trounced the Dillon Beavers 8-1 with a home run from junior, Brennan Harlan. They end the regular season 12-4, their only losses coming from West and Skyview. They begin the Montana State Baseball Tournament with a game against Columbia Falls.
The Billings Central’s Tennis Team and reigning state champions in the boys’ and girls’ divisions, are sending four competitors to state. Senior Evan Miller, and freshman Christian Reck, qualified for mens’ doubles. Seniors Bailee Roesch and Natalie Newbury, qualified for womens’ doubles. Senior Billie Cate Schmitt, and sophomore Caiden Hernandez, are alternates.
Lastly, the Lady Rams Softball is 15-5-1, with the tie coming against Dillon. Some notable wins include a 19-4 win over Livingston, a 12-6 win over Billings West, and a 15-1 win against East Helena. They begin the Montana State Softball Tournament against Stevensville.
