Billings Central Football started off the season with two straight wins. Their season opener was in Dillon against the Beaverhead County Beavers. Starting down 20-7 in the first quarter, the Rams fought back to win 64-28. Seniors Layne Alexander and Ayden Salter each had two rushing touchdowns with 96 and 95 yards respectively. Senior quarterback, Howie Martin, also had a 43-yard touchdown pass to tight end, Kael Aldrich, in the second quarter.
This week, in the Rams’ home opener against the Havre Blue Ponies, the game told a similar story. After a fumble on the opening kickoff, the Rams found themselves on defense, but they found a stroke of luck when Havre’s kicker missed a field goal that would’ve put the Blue Ponies ahead. The Rams formed their own march down the field, which was cut short by an interception in the red zone. To begin the second quarter, Howie Martin found Kael Aldrich from fifteen yards out to open the scoring, and Havre responded with their own passing touchdown for their only score of the game. William Snell, who’s committed to the Montana Grizzlies’ Football team, returned the ensuing kickoff to give Billings Central the momentum they needed. Layne Alexander punched it in from three yards out to make the score 21-7 going into halftime.
In the second half, the Rams remained heavy on the gas pedal. Martin found Snell on a short pass to the left side, and Snell made one man miss before bulling through another to get into the end zone. On the next drive, Martin found Ayden Salter in a chaotic play to get the Rams into the end zone and make the score 35-7. Junior, Kaden Wahl, ran in for a touchdown on a jet sweep to cap the scoring at 42-7. Billings Central moved to 2-0 on the year and will face Frenchtown at home before a homecoming game against crosstown rivals, Laurel. The Locomotives are seeking revenge for last season, given that the Rams beat them on their homecoming night as well as in the state championship. It looks like an optimistic season ahead for the Rams.
