With many new events happening throughout the school year, it’s easy to forget which new clubs have been introduced to students. These clubs are the ASL, Pickleball, and Vision Clubs. ASL Club is run by junior theology teacher, Patty Ball, and Pickleball Club is run by junior and senior social studies and film teacher, Shane Fairbanks. Both are run alongside a select few students involved in each club. Angela Hirt, BCCHS’s counselor, advises the Vision Club, while sophomore students Ella Brandon and Vanessa Sheridan run it.
ASL (American Sign Language) was a club where students learned the basics of ASL and how to communicate with others who use it. The club first met on November 3rd, and it continued to meet every Monday at lunch in Mrs. Ball’s, former religion teacher, classroom. The club was created because many students expressed interest in learning how to sign. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn a new language, and it was also an effective way to meet new people with the same interests. ASL Club members learned how to sign the ABCs, numbers, how to spell names, and a few simple words.

Vision Club was started a few years ago by students Anna Prill and Brianna Brandon, both of whom graduated in 2025. They wanted to add things to their college applications, but they also wanted other students to have more volunteer opportunities. Unfortunately, it ceased to continue after they graduated. Luckily though, Ella Brandon and Vanessa Sheridan brought it back. They plan to find different volunteer opportunities in the community and invite students in Vision Club to help. Hirt mentioned that, “It is another opportunity to add to your resume, to have an opportunity to explore who you are, to help people in the community. It is something bigger than just serving for yourself.” Vision Club is a fantastic opportunity for students looking to help around the community.

Pickleball Club was actually created about two years ago by then-juniors Russell Johnson and Sam Jagodzinski, both of whom graduated in 2025. It was so successful that they did not continue it their senior year because of what Fairbanks called “A fear of success.” Together, Johnson and Jagodzinski accomplished things like helping to create a pickleball-themed movie called Overhead. But after that, last year the momentum stopped. Fortunately, Fairbanks brought it back for this year. It is now run by both Fairbanks and a small student leadership group. The president of Pickleball Club is sophomore Christian Reck. Seniors Bowman Seitz and Baxter Jensen are both officers. They meet in Fairbanks’s room at lunch about twice a month. They also have open play times at Central Park, the Elks Club, and Smash Indoor Pickleball. They plan to host a pickleball tournament here at BCCHS, and they also might play against West High School’s Pickleball Club.
Out of all the clubs at BCCHS, these are just a handful of some of the great options here. All make great opportunities to meet new people, try new things, and to put on resumes. Many of these clubs are still accepting members and, if you are interested, you can talk with the club adviser about joining.
