On February 15, the HOSA club at Billings Central met outside of the Yellowstone Surgery Center and wrote encouraging messages on the sidewalks of the hospitals and clinics of Billings. This was a part of their annual “Chalk the Walk,” which is an event designed to honor healthcare workers in the community. During the event, the Billings Central’s HOSA club partnered up with the local career center. This year, HOSA decided to do Chalk the Walk around Valentine’s Day giving it a theme centered around love and gratitude.

As Krista Cunningham said, “Chalk the Walk is a way for HOSA to show appreciation to the healthcare workers in our community.” By decorating the sidewalks with colorful chalk messages, students aim to brighten the day of those working in hospitals and clinics throughout Billings. Cunningham says the impact reaches beyond healthcare workers. “I think everybody in our community is really impacted,” she said. “The students that do it really love doing it. It is fun for them to show their appreciation this way. It is also fun to get outside and work together.”

From students to healthcare workers, the effect of Chalk the Walk is positive. The chalk drawings serve as a reminder that health care worker’s hard work does not go unnoticed. Chalk the Walk will most like continue throughout the years at Central as it builds creativity, teamwork, and gratitude.
