Every other year, BCCHS puts on a musical during the springtime. This year, BCCHS will be performing the popular musical, Fiddler on the Roof. This musical is very well known for its soundtrack and choreography. The auditions occurred on January 15th and 16th. Once the casting decisions were made, practices started the following week.

The Fiddler on the Roof musical follows a Jewish family of five girls and their parents. The story follows the girls’ various love interests. Junior and Student Director, Vivian Hastings, describes the plot as she says, “The show is all about Jewish tradition and family roles and how tradition is good, but love, feelings, and more can go against tradition.” The story brings the audience a perspective on Jewish tradition and additionally touches on how love can change that tradition. This allows cast members and audience members to engage with a topic that is potentially unfamiliar yet interesting.
The cast this year consists of experienced theater performers, but a large amount are also students who are new to theater. Hastings reflected on this with excitement as she said, “There’s a lot of people that wouldn’t usually participate in something like this that are participating which is really fun.” Junior, Ahmilee Guzman is one of those who will be participating in her first musical this year. She is extremely excited about performing this specific musical as she declared, “It’s my favorite musical!” Many BCCHS students can say the same about this musical because of how well-known it is. Guzman and many other students new to theater are excited to perform their first musical and contribute to the BCCHS community.
As of now, the cast has been practicing every day after school from 3 to 5pm. Some days their practices last until 6pm. When the week of the musical arrives, their practices after school will last until much later in the evening. The musical will have three performances occurring on Friday (March 20th), Saturday (March 21st), and Sunday (March 22nd). As the cast continues to prepare, BCCHS looks forward to the performance next month.
