Third baseman McKenna Nelson before the play in the Lady Rams’ win over Laurel (Dane Mueller)
Billings Central’s Softball team could not have asked for a stronger start to the season. Riding an eight-game winning streak, the Lady Rams have quickly proved themselves as one of the teams to watch out for in Class A. Combining explosiveness on offense and consistency on defense, they’ve proven their worth as competitors.
Their recent stretch has been defined by a series of commanding victories. A 14-1 victory over Lockwood showed the team’s ability to jump on opponents early and maintain control of a game. They followed up with a 20-5 win over the Hardin Bulldogs, displaying more offensive explosiveness. Their 5-4 rivalry win against Laurel showed their ability to perform in tense situations, winning the game on a walk-off 2-RBI triple.

Shortstop Emma Hernandez prepares to field a ball in the Lady Rams’ win over Laurel (Dane Mueller)
The Lady Rams’ 11-0 shutout of the East Helena Vigilantes demonstrated exceptional offensive and defensive play, with the Lady Rams’ pitching staff throwing a complete game shutout while only allowing two hits. Billings Central’s two-sport star Emma Hernandez got on base twice and brought home four RBIs with a run of her own as well. Hernandez rolled right into the softball season following an impressive wrestling season, where she was a State finalist.
As the season continues, the Lady Rams will face off against the Lions and Bulldogs for the second time each, before heading to Livingston to take on the Park High Rangers. They will then finish off the season against East Helena and Laurel.
