The second annual Sweetheart’s Dance occurred on Saturday, February 7th, in Central’s small gym. All four grades at Central were invited to go, with a semi-formal theme.

The decorations were loved-themed: red hearts and romantic colors filled the gymnasium. With a semi-formal theme, students had the option of whether or not have to bring a date. Semi-formal also means boys did not have to wear tuxedos.
This year’s Sweetheart Dance was different because more students were taught how to line dance before the dance, and more line dances were played. Students were taught line dances in some theology and music classes, with Central’s newest full-time faculty, junior theology teacher Sean Khan, leading the practices.
Sophomore Harper Downing really enjoyed the line dancing, as she says “I thought line dancing was fun. I liked how everyone took part in it and no one was awkward about it even if we all did not know how to do it.”
In addition to line dancing, there was also an added emphasis on swing dancing. Swing dancing was also taught in theology and music classes. Swing dancing brought back memories for some students as sophomore IvyTillery recalls “Swing dancing brought back a lot of memories. My dad taught me to swing dance when I was five. My dad and I used to have the record player, and we would dance to it.”
Students enjoyed the 2026 Sweetheart’s Dance. The students enjoyed swing and line dancing, and other songs. The Sweetheart’s Dance was a great last dance of this school year for underclassmen, and added enthusiasm for upperclassmen getting ready for Prom.
