On April 16th, students from across Montana gathered in Missoula at the University of Montana for the 2026 High School Journalism Day. High School Journalism Day is an annual event put on by the University of Montana Journalism school which ranks among the top journalism schools in the nation.

Members of the BC Chronicle staff brought home multiple awards for their work throughout this year. Sophomores Gabe Starosta and Dane Mueller each took home first place in their respective areas, with Mueller winning Sports Event writing and Starosta winning News Photography. Mueller won first for his piece on the Billings Central Football team’s season. Freshman Reaghan Bullock also took home first in News Writing for her story on the Billings Central Swim teams.
Junior Sahara Small took home second in News Photography for her pictures of Homecoming Week. Sophomore Christian Reck took third in News Writing, junior Josh Strydom took third in Sports Photography, and junior Maggie Haney took third in Opinion Writing. Junior Harper Pham and senior Alex Johnson took third in Feature Writing for their collaborative piece on Billings Central’s updated cellphone policy.
