With the commencement of winter sports, Rams Wrestling has been hard at work preparing for their season. Coming off one of Billings Central’s best season to date, assistant coach Jacob Morgan is excited for what comes next. He says that Rams Wrestling will “one-thousand-percent” build on last year’s success, which relies on the work done in the pre-season.
“We’ve been able to lift more and hold open mats in the mornings,” Morgan told the BC Chronicle, “and we’ve had more guys going to pre-season tournaments than ever before.” Defending state champions, Aramis and Kaius Rivera, are prime examples of that. Kaius is coming off a win at the Monster Match tournament in Denver, and Aramis competed in the U.S. Marine Corps Junior Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota over the summer. Morgan said morning lifts and open mats will help Rams Wrestling to “hit the ground running, rather than starting fresh.”

As for the upcoming season, Morgan expects a few of his wrestlers to have breakout seasons. “Owen Wegner will grow on his success from last year,” Morgan anticipates, “and on the girls’ side, I expect Emma Hernandez to build on last year and Ashlyn McCann to see good success as well. I also think the Riveras have strong cases to repeat as champions.”
Rams Wrestling begins the regular season next week, and their first tournament will be in Manhattan on December 6th.
